Louisiana Trip

S had to go to work today, but D had another day off with us and we went off for a walk in Jean Lafitte NP. It was another hot day, and we made our way along the board walk. The whole walk is not far, but we soon started spotting animals and cameras and binos were out. It took us a long time, and we never did get to the end of the walk, but we saw lots of lovely things, including some tree frogs - very green; a ribbon snake slithering around the swamp and over a rotten tree trunk; red cardinals chasing each other at high speed through the trees; a humming bird flitting about swamp flowers.

We managed some refreshments at a coffee place just off the freeway, then got back to the house in time to water the plants before changing for dinner. We all went for dinner at Antoine’s, an old fashioned restaurant in the French Quarter that is famous for inventing Oysters Rockefeller, which I tried and they were a bit overwhelmed by the green gunge plastered over the top of them. We had a hilarious waiter who reminded us of someone from the Godfather movie as he kept creeping up on us and speaking in a strange voice. A and I had cherries jubilee for dessert that was flambĂ©ed at the table. Afterwards we walked around, looking at the photos of famous people who have dined there, as well as seeing the other dining rooms off the main area where various societies dine - such as the Escargot Club and suchlike.
